The Relaxation of Crafting and Sewing

Do the holidays or even everyday life cause you stress?  Normally we can go shopping to relieve some stress but not during the holidays. During the holidays shopping can cause more stress than it could ever alleviate. Because it is true that it is not the stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it that kills us; I am writing this blog to propose a way to react to the stress you may be faced with; I propose you try a sewing or craft project to help keep stress levels low. Sewing and crafting can be a great stress reliever as long as you choose a project that is not too challenging for you.

Many people use sewing as well as other types of crafts and or hobbies to relieve their stress. My mother (also the mother of my 12 siblings) always had her knitting bag with her wherever she went; this  was after raising all of us. When she would come visit she would be knitting away as we talked about what had been going on in our lives. If we went to anywhere that involved sitting in one place and not eating, she would be knitting. She knit so much that she had her items for sale in a few stores. Not only was it therapeutic for her it was also very rewarding. She loved when people would go on about how beautiful her work was and would ask if she could make something for them.

bored
When people find that they are bored, lacking enthusiasm, or they just need something to keep them busy, they should try sewing
and/or crafting to relieve their symptoms. Sewing and crafting are both great ways to keep busy and avoid being bored. If you do not know how to sew there are numerous sewing classes out there such as the free online classes at www.craftsy.com/Sewing and at youtube.com (use search at top of Youtube’s page). There are the classes that meet up locally including the ones offered at Sew From the Heart and at Sewing Nuts both located in Scottsdale. These classes usually cost money. And there are numerous volunteer opportunities out there that can be quite rewarding emotionally.
